Kathryn is most recognised for her roles as “Karen McCluskey” on ABC’s Desperate Housewives (2004) and “Mrs. Landingham,” secretary to the President (Martin Sheen), on NBC’s The West Wing, a drama that has garnered widespread critical praise (1999). She has also appeared as a recurring character on the television programme Dharma & Greg (1997) and as a guest star on a number of popular television series, including Becker (1998), Arli$$ (1996), Ally McBeal (1997), Providence (1999), Scrubs (2001), and more than twenty other prime-time shows. In the latter part of this year, you can also see Kathryn in the daytime soap General Hospital on ABC (1963). Her resume is rather outstanding for an actress, much alone for someone who didn’t start acting until she was 42 years old. Kathryn’s mother passed away from cancer in 1963, while she was in her twenties; yet, Kathryn did not begin actively pursuing her ambition until well into her middle years. Her mother confided in her daughter as she lay dying in the hospital that her greatest regret was not living the life of her dreams. At that same moment, Kathryn made a solemn commitment to herself that she would one day follow her own ambition of acting. She was beginning a new job as a psychiatric nurse at the time, and at the time, she was working in a medium security wing with troubled adolescents. Because of that employment, she was able to meet and marry a psychiatrist, have two sons, and eventually settle down as a suburban housewife in Lake Forest, Illinois, which is a prosperous suburb of Chicago. However, Kathryn never let go of her ambition to pursue a career in acting, despite the fact that she was always preoccupied with the needs of her husband and children. Kathryn found herself in a challenging circumstance in 1980 when the drinking of her husband led to their divorce. She was a single mother with two small boys. She chose not to give up hope, but rather to seize the chance to make a permanent shift in her life and pursue a goal she had given up on. Kathryn attended the Steppenwolf Theater School in Chicago and performed in community theatres located around Northern Illinois while she was there. She supported her family by hanging wallpaper and painting the mansions of Lake Forest by day, working as a sales representative for a firm that manufactured Welcome Wagons, and making use of her connections to book film and print settings in the homes that she was painting. During the evenings, Kathryn worked on enhancing her abilities and transitioning from performing in community theatre to semi-professional theatre. The year 1991 marked the beginning of her career. Disney sponsored an open audition for anybody interested in working as street entertainers at Disney World. Kathryn finally obtained the component after waiting in line for a total of five hours and then relocated her business to Orlando, Florida. Kathryn was finally making her living via performance, and she loved it! Despite the fact that she was living behind an adult arcade in a “tourist unfriendly” section of Buena Vista, she was enjoying it immensely. Once again, Kathryn was obliged to supplement her acting income with other jobs; during the day, she worked as a bartender and caterer, and at night, she performed in theatrical productions. The role barely lasted for a year. Kathryn Joosten was born on December 20, 1939 in Chicago, United States. Kathryn Joosten died on June 2, 2012 at the age of 72 years.
