  2. Career 2

Private practice, Navy service and prosecution

Cannaday was born in Tampa and moved around while growing up in a military family. After law school, she worked as an associate at Steptoe in Washington, D.C., before joining the Navy. She later left active duty and returned to Washington while continuing in the Navy Reserve. Her work has included capital defense in Alabama, prosecution in a Navy serious-crimes division and a domestic violence unit as an assistant U.S. attorney.[3]

  3. Career 3

    Professional relationships and preparation

In her pre-season interview, Cannaday said legal work had taught her to maintain professional relationships even when people were on opposing sides. She saw a connection between that experience and the shifting alliances of Survivor. To prepare, she watched past seasons, practiced puzzles and worked out with help from a friend.[3]

    The close elimination vote

Cannaday’s season ended in a close 6–5 vote, which she discussed in an October 9 exit interview. Looking back, she credited Thien An Nguyen with the move that removed her from the game.[4]

  5. Career 5

Responding to support after the show

The same interview showed Cannaday separating disappointment with her result from appreciation for the response afterward. She thanked fellow contestants and viewers for their support, and said that knowing people wanted to see more of her was meaningful after an early exit. Her account described both the competitive frustration of being voted out and the connections that continued beyond the island.[4]
