Ioan Humphreys is a farmer from Wales who took part in Apocalypse's West Side group. He began running his family's farm at twenty. Entering an abandoned town placed him outside the rural environment he knew, even though some survival tasks felt familiar.

Channel 4's introduction describes Humphreys taking responsibility for the farm at a young age. He spoke about living in a remote area where power cuts and long journeys to services were familiar parts of daily life.[1]
Humphreys entered without extra survival training. He relied on existing practical knowledge for tasks such as making a fire, while learning to fish during filming.[1]
He left some building jobs to group members who already had those skills.[1]
The town's scale and damaged buildings initially overwhelmed him. Over time, the group's warehouse accommodation became familiar, and he also valued finding quiet moments in the woods beside the lake.[1]
Looking back, Humphreys said he needed more patience when others approached work differently. He also identified clearer communication as something he could improve, rather than expecting people to understand what he wanted without being told.[1]
