Nguyen graduated from TCU in 2023 and is a John V. Roach Honors College Laureate. Her undergraduate studies combined biology, pre-health preparation and honors coursework. In an interview with the university, she described arriving on campus as a very quiet student and becoming more confident through friendships, professors and mentors.[3]
One course she singled out was City as Text, which used Fort Worth itself as a place to learn. Students explored neighbourhoods and spoke with people they met. Nguyen said the experience encouraged her to look at a familiar city more closely, while her science courses developed a different kind of curiosity about the body and physiology.[3]
Nguyen became interested in Survivor while watching with her family during the pandemic. She told TCU that medical training had encouraged her to ask questions and understand people, skills she wanted to test in the game.[3]
Her role in the season became part of another contestant’s account after Patt Cannaday’s elimination. In an October 9 interview with City Cast DC, Cannaday credited Nguyen with directing the move against her. Cannaday said Nguyen had previously acknowledged considering her as a target, and described having underestimated her. That assessment came from Cannaday’s post-game perspective, rather than a claim that Nguyen alone controlled every vote.[4]
